Delete your account

1. Send a deletion request

If you want to leave Sawa, email hello@joinsawa.ch. If you cannot access your account email, explain that in the message. We may need to verify ownership before processing your request. Never send your password.

Our stated timeframe for handling a verified email deletion request is within 30 days. Deleting the app from your device does not delete your account.

The app confirms your request. Deletion then finishes in the background, usually within about 10 minutes, even if you close the app. For Apple-linked accounts, the app asks you to sign in with Apple again and revoke access before submitting deletion. Use email if you have an older app version or cannot access the in-app control.

2. Account information and shared content

A deletion request can cover your account and profile, uploaded media, matching preferences, meetup and feedback records, connections and activity records associated with you.

Your authored chat messages, photos and voice recordings are removed. Shared chats keep “Message deleted” placeholders, and cached quoted previews are cleared. The other participants’ messages and shared meetup context may remain without your profile.

You can request information about which records have been removed, retained or anonymised. We cannot erase copies another person has independently saved.

3. Records that may need to remain

Content that has been reported is preserved privately for Sawa Team’s safety review, even if the reported account is deleted. Only the reported content and the case records are retained: while the case is open, and for 90 days after it is closed. They are then deleted automatically. This exception does not leave the content visible in ordinary chats. Deleted data, including photos and voice messages, can stay recoverable in our backups for up to 7 days before it is gone for good. Our Privacy Policy describes data handling.
