I came to Switzerland from Syria to study — and for the first time in my life, I had no one. No family, no friends, not a single familiar face. The loneliness hit harder than I ever imagined; some nights, it was all I could feel.
I kept telling myself there had to be a better way to meet people here. I tried everything — Meetup, Bumble, every app out there — but none of them gave me what I was really missing: real friends, in my own city, who actually wanted to show up.
So I stopped waiting for it to exist, and I built it myself. Months of late nights, teaching myself as I went, with AI as my co-pilot — and slowly, Sawa came to life. I poured my whole heart into it.
Today, I finally get to share it. And if it spares even one person who arrives here alone — the way I did — from that same loneliness, then every late night was worth it.
